Description
freeman brear architects is a chartered architects practice run from a home office in rural Cambridgeshire. Our portfolio of projects encompasses all types of building, responding individually to each specific case. We work both with existing buildings and new build, designing sustainable, environmentally-conscious and contemporary solutions to the ever-present need for shelter and place-making. Each project is carried-out by a principal architect, ensuring that a high level of expertise and experience is enjoyed throughout the project.
The practice was started by Judith Brear in 2000 in response to the difficulties she experienced in combining motherhood with the long-hours culture of the architectural profession. In 2009, the steady growth of the practice has allowed Judith’s husband Bruce to join freeman brear architects, bringing his considerable architectural and management experience to the practice. Together Judith and Bruce offer an un-equaled local architectural service.
what our clients say about us
“We recently had the good fortune to work with Freeman Brear Architects on our home conversion project. We found Judith to be extremely passionate about her work. Her real strength was in building excellent rapport with us by listening and interpreting our brief, and ensuring that every last detail was agreed prior to going to tender”.
After qualifying in 1991, Judith worked for a variety of architectural practices, gaining valuable experience with many different building types. She has worked as an in-house Architect for a well-known charity, converting Grade 1 Listed buildings, as well as for a small, contemporary, award-winning practice where she was responsible for a series of interesting projects from social housing to a Law Centre. She won a design award in 1998 for a contemporary one-off apartment in Knightsbridge.
During the past eleven years, she has worked in the Ely area on a wide variety of projects both large and small. The bulk of this experience has been in the residential market, an area of work Judith enjoys. She has also been responsible in this time for educational buildings and commercial work, as well as gaining planning permission for sensitive sites.
