Slippage on wet floors can take a fraction of a second, while the consequences could last a life time. Broken bones and litigation are some of the possible outcomes. Pendulum slip testing can reduce the risk of slip injury and is a critical safety aspect to be considered.
Pendulum Slip Test
This Pendulum test can be used to accurately test the slip potential on clean, dry or contaminated floors wet and dry. The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) prefer this method of testing as it is portable and works in the conditions that slip accidents happen.
The HSE released statistics suggest that once a floor meets or exceeds 36+ (PTV – Pendulum Test Value) on the pendulum, the probability of slipping dramatically reduces.
We are able to provide Pendulum Slip Testing for the following floor types:
• Granite • Slate • Marble • Limestone • Terrazzo • Quarry Tiles • Porcelain Ceramics • Concrete • Wood • Decking • Vinyl • VCT • Laminates •
The Pendulum slip test consists of the following stages:
- The floor is tested wet as found in three directions
- The floor is tested wet after cleaning in three directions
Once all of the above has been completed, you will be supplied with a comprehensive report which shows the following:-
- Site Tested
- Method Used
- Results Obtained (PTV) and whether the floor is suitable for purpose
Once you are in receipt of this report, it is an indication that you are meeting your responsibilities to provide a safer environment and provides a paper trail to illustrate the company’s commitment to ‘due diligence’. (read more)
